Hormone pellet therapy is a form of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. Rather than gels, creams, injections, or oral pills, this type of hormone therapy implants small pellets underneath your skin to release deliver consistent, physiologic levels of hormones. Since bioidentical hormones mimic the exact hormones that your body already creates, they are fairly safe with minimal side effects. The best way to know is to come get tested! For men, hormonal balances can start as early as your young adult years. For example, starting in your 30s, men start losing testosterone yearly. Such imbalances can cause fatigue, erectile dysfunction, low libido, and lower abdominal fat. For women, dysfunction in your hormonal levels can start as early as your reproductive years! Fatigue, infertility, irregular periods, acne, and lower abdominal fat are only a few of the signs.

Dr. Turner uses the information collected during your visits and the result so your initial blood work to develop a custom treatment plan that targets the exact hormone deficiency that you are suffering from. Once your treatment is ready, Dr. Turner uses numbing medication to numb the area. She then places the pellet – smaller than a grain of rice – into the fatty tissue. Most commonly, the upper buttock is used as the placement area due to the amount of tissue present. After insertion of the pellets, vigorous physical activity should be avoided for approximately 2-3 days. After three days, you may resume normal activity.

Due to numbing medications used, pellet implant insertion is relatively painless. According to most patients, soreness after insertion is minimal. After insertion of the pellets, vigorous physical activity should be avoided for approximately 2-3 days. Some patients begin to feel symptom improvement within 48 hours, while others take longer depending on the body’s absorption rate and physiologic levels. The pellets do not need to be removed. They are completely dissolved by the body. Pellet Implants typically last between 3-6 months, depending on how rapidly the hormones are metabolized.
